Mark von SnapDice hat eine bislang einzigartige Würfelschale erfunden, die es so zuvor noch nicht gab. Sie besteht aus erstklassigem exotischen Hartholz mit eingebetteten Neodym-Seltenerd-Magneten, dazu gibt es perfekt ausgewogene maßgeschneiderte Stahlwürfel.

Die Idee für SnapDice entstandt aus seiner Liebe zu Magneten. Als er im Geschäft seines Vaters mit solchen Magneten spielte, kam ihm eines Tages die Idee von magnetischen Würfeln auf. „Wäre es nicht verrückt“, dachte er, „in der Lage zu sein, Würfel zu rollen, die magnetisch wären und an einem Metalltablett oder Tisch kleben könnten.“ Später kam ihm der Einfall, dass der Trick der ganzen Sache nicht die magnetischen Würfel seien, sondern Magnete in der Würfelschale und einfache Stahlwürfel.

Bei Leuten, die von Marks Idee erfuhren, kam schnell die Frage auf, ob das Würfelergebnis dadurch nicht manipuliert sei. Doch die Schale bezwecke laut Mark ganz das Gegenteil. Die Würfel wurden so produzierte, dass sie eine optimale Balance versprechen und fairer seien, als alle Würfel, die man jemals verwendet habe. Die Magnete fügen also keinerlei Gunst zu irgendeiner Würfelseite hinzu.
Nach zahlreichen Optimierungen um die perfekte Balance der Magnetstärke herauszufinden, ging Mark mit seiner Erfindung zu einer Spielekonferenz.

Eine Testerin beschrieb ihre Erfahrungen folgendermaßen:

“I was one of the people rolling the dice over and over. I can’t explain why it was fun. Before I tried it I thought it was silly. After I tried it I wanted more. It was like bubble wrap.”

Das Ziel dieses Tabletts bestand darin, etwas zu machen, das nicht nur funktional sondern auch schön sei. Es solle etwas sein, was man seinen Freunden zeigen will. Man hätte genauso gut billiges Holz oder Plastik benutzen können, aber das war nicht das, was Mark und sein Team wollten.
