Icecool ist das Kinderspiel des Jahres 2017 – und was für eins! Es richtet sich an 2 – 4 Spieler ab 6 Jahren und stellt einen Mix aus ein wenig Taktik und Strategie sowie jeder Menge Geschicklichkeit dar.

In Icecool geht es um Pinguinschüler, die in der „Ice-School“ den Unterricht schwänzen. Die Schule besteht dabei aus fünf Boxen, die zusammen ein großes, quadratisches Spielfeld ergeben. Die Boxen sind mittels kleiner Türen miteinander verbunden. Die Spieler müssen versuchen, ihren Pinguin durch eine dieser Türen zu schnippen. Gelingt ihnen dies bei einer Tür, über der ein Fisch in der eigenen Farbe hängt, erhalten sie einen Siegpunkt.

Doch Vorsicht! Einer der Spieler spielt den Hausmeister – und der mag schwänzende Pinguinschüler gar nicht so gerne! Gelingt es ihm, einen der Schüler zu berühren, kassiert er dessen Schülerausweis und erhält selber Punkte.

Die Jury des Spiel des Jahres e.V. begründet seine Entscheidung folgendermaßen:

Da sage noch einer, Schule sei uncool. Schule ist cool, icecool. Ist die Arena erst einmal aufgebaut, können Spielkinder jedes Alters gar nicht anders, als sofort die Pinguine über das Eis schlittern zu lassen. Die Lernkurve ist groß – mit Übung sind erstaunliche Tricks möglich. Hier stimmt alles: Brian Gomez verbindet eine originelle Spielgeschichte, eindrucksvolle Ausstattung, detailverliebte Illustration und fordernden Ablauf zu einem idealtypischen Geschicklichkeitsspiel.
